Officer's Responsibility

Election of officers shall be completed at the November meeting each year. Officers shall be elected for a term of one year starting September 1 through August 31.

The principal officers shall be President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

The President shall preside at all meetings and shall have the general powers and duties that are usually vested in this office.

The Vice President shall take the place of the President and perform her / his duties whenever the President shall be absent or unable to act. The Vice President shall plan and coordinate the meetings of the Club with the advice and suggestions of the President and Executive Board.

The Secretary shall keep the minutes of all meetings, handle correspondence, and perform all duties incidental to the office of Secretary.

The Treasurer shall keep accurate and full account of all reciepts and disbursements and shall deposit all monies into the bank to the credit of the Village Cat Club.

Purpose

1. To promote the welfare of all cats, and those in Laguna Wood Village in particular.
2. To provide socialibilty among owners and cat lovers of Laguna Woods Village.
3. To assist fellow members with problems incidental to the care and ownership of Laguna Woods Village cats.

Membership

Any Laguna Woods Village resident interested in cats is eligible for membership.

Dues

Dues are $10.00 per year.

Funds

Club funds are to be used for the welfare of cats and administration of club costs. Other contributions will be made only with the unanimous approval of the Executive Board.

Meetings

The Village Cat Club will meet monthly. Meetings will not take place during the summer months or during the Christmas - New Year holiday period. Programs for meetings will appear in the Laguna Woods Globe.

Quorum

Ten or more members shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business.

Executive Board

Shall consist of the elected officers plus the immediate past presidents. These functions are:

1. To transact business and facilitate such action as deemed necessary to be approved by the membership at the next meeting.
2. To formulate the programs of the Village Cat Club.
3. To plan such special events as may seem to promote the work of the Club and the welfare of cats.

Amendments

These bylaws may be amended by a majority affirmative vote at any regular or special meeting, providing a quorum is present. (Bylaws approved June 15, 1971; amended November 3, 1978; June 7, 1996; and October 18, 2000.)

Cat Registry

The Cat Club maintains a registry for members cats with forms to be filled out with the required information for each cat in each household. Forms are obtainable at Cat Club meetings, or by contacting the Cat Club here. The city of Laguna Woods also maintains a cat registry.

Cat Care in Laguna Woods

There is no leash law pertaining to cats. Security handles nuisance situations, complaints and emergencies. Call the Laguna Beach Police at (949) 497-0701 and ask for the Animal Control Officer for sick or dead animals. Contact the Cat Club here for lost cats, found cats, or in instances when a cat owner cannot care for their cat due to illness or death.

We strongly recommend that cats be kept indoors only. Coyotes and other wildlife are a real threat both day and night. Owners should place ID tags on cats providing names and telephone number, and / or microchip their cats.
